Here at Blackpool we have a Maternal Medicine Midwife who works alongside obstetric consultants, arranging special multi-disciplinary meetings to develop a personalised plan of care for women with underlying health conditions.
If you are receiving care from a medical specialist already, you will be supported to continue your regular medical care alongside your maternity appointments. The maternal medicine team will work with the medical teams to offer advice and expertise and advocate for your choices around the pregnancy.
We are part of the Maternal Medicine Network and our nearest Maternal Medicine Centre is Royal Preston Hospital. For those women with very complex medical conditions that need extra support their plans will be discussed on the Maternal medicine network consisting of maternal medicine midwives, obstetricians, anaesthetists, medical physicians and fetal medicine consultants from across the region.
At booking of your pregnancy with your community midwife they will refer you to the maternal medicine team if you have a new or existing medical condition or at risk of a preterm birth.
Clinics are held Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm.
