As an organisation and team, we realise navigating education and employment can be a challenge.

Therefore, if you are currently not in education, training or employment, please take a short time to review the pages below which contain lots of helpful information with regard to the range of options that may be of interest to you, and which may help you to take the next steps.

We have one of the most diverse workforces on the Fylde Coast and a huge range of exciting job roles and careers available. Even if you are new to the world of work, there is a stable career potentially waiting for you at BTH.

But first, read why we consider working to be important:

  1. Structure - Having a job brings structure to your life. It gives you a sense of purpose and with your achievements, comes a sense of personal accomplishment too. Remember, every job has a purpose, if it did not, the job would not exist!
  2. Meet new people - When you start a new job, you meet new people, often a diverse range of people too. Although this can be a little overwhelming for some, you will soon build working relationships with those who you work with, which have the potential to lead to lifelong friendships.
  3. Working can contribute significantly to a healthy body and mind. It can give you a sense of identity, increase your self-esteem and self-worth.
  4. Money. Although not the most important benefit to work, earning money will mean receiving a regular income and give you the ability to become financially independent. Earning a fixed salary (for example), will allow you to budget and of course, buy and treat yourself, often to things that you otherwise could afford.
  5. Career progression - Once you have secured work, in-time, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills further and progress; remembering, with promotion comes an increase in salary too.

If you’re ready to take the next steps into work, but are unsure how, the Trust’s Apprenticeship and Widening Participation Team have a number of options that can be a great place to start.

  1. Gain an understanding of the different healthcare roles that are available at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals through a work experience placement.
  2. Gain an insight into the type of job role that may appeal to you; including the potential for further development.
  3. Learn about your own skills and abilities and how they can be transferred to meet a job role.
  4. Upon successful completion of the programme, receive a certificate to support a CV and/or personal statement, or use it as a starting point as you build your experience as you consider your next steps.
  5. Gain expert advice and guidance from your peers during your placement. Receive support from the Apprenticeship and Widening Participation Team with job applications upon successful completion of the programme.
  6. Access paid Bank hours upon successful completion of the programme (and interview).
