Welcome
As a patient attending the Day Unit, you can receive Systemic Anti-
Cancer Treatment (SACT), blood products, or other medication to
control symptoms that you may experience. This may also involve
monitoring blood results or any tests that may be required as part of
your treatment.
It is likely that you will be treated in a chair, next to a patient of the
opposite gender. If you have any concerns about this, or find it
difficult to talk openly about personal issues, owing to the open plan
setting please discuss this with the team. Our commitment to you is
to provide the highest standard of care and support your decision
making about your treatment. We will respect your dignity at all times
and do our best to accommodate your personal preferences, as
much as possible.
Your journey on the Day Unit
On arrival, please book in at the reception desk, where it is sign
posted Haematology. The receptionist will allocate you a wristband.
You can take a seat in the waiting area, where there is a cold water
machine and a patient dedicated tea and coffee service available.
A team member will call you once a treatment chair is available.
Please ask reception if you have been waiting longer than 30
minutes after arrival in the unit.
Appointment times will vary depending on the treatment. Often, you
will need to wait for the results of any blood tests, which could take
1-3 hours during busy periods. We appreciate your patience.
