Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) is available to adults across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. Services are provided in hospital, in people’s homes and in outpatient clinics.

The service is available to people over 18 years of age who have communication and/or swallowing difficulties. These may be caused by stroke, respiratory conditions, gender transition, stammering, head and neck cancer, neurodegenerative conditions, or as a result of a surgical procedure.

There are separate SLT services for children , people with brain injury and adults with learning disabilities (Blackpool Adult Learning Disability Service or Lancashire & South Cumbria Learning Disability Service).

Our team includes qualified SLTs, Therapy Assistants and Clerical Staff. All SLTs are registered with  the Health and Care Professionals Council  and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. The Department also offers clinical placements to Student Speech and Language Therapists from various universities. All students work under the supervision of experienced clinical staff.
