For families who have a Blackpool GP, the NHS SLT service is funded to work with those children who require a ‘specialist’ level of support; there is a separately funded service for Blackpool under 5’s, available through Blackpool Better Start. If you feel a child will benefit from targeted level of support and they live in Blackpool and are under 5 years of age, a referral can be made through the 'Wellcomm’ pathway: SLC Intro Page – Blackpool Better Start.
If you are unsure, please see the information below for advice around following a 'graduated approach'.
Below you will find more information on universal, targeted and specialist levels. Before making a referral to the Speech and Language Therapy service for specialist support, consider taking a ‘graduated’ approach. This means thinking about how you might be able to help at home or school before seeking additional support. Take a look at some more information which may help.
