Overview

Many survivors of critical illness face a long and difficult recovery period. Following a stay on the Critical Care Unit, many patients experience ongoing physical and psychological problems, low mood, anxiety or changes in memory. These problems can often stop people from returning to their normal daily activities.
If you have spent more than four days on Critical Care, you will be sent a letter inviting you to attend the follow-up clinic. The letter will be sent to you approximately two - three months after you have left Critical Care.
Research has shown that a significant number of people who have had a critical illness may benefit from attending a follow-up appointment.
