Megan's 30k run in memory of her brother Bradley.jpegMegan recently completed a remarkable 30km running challenge in support of Blue Skies to honour her brother Bradley, marking what would have been his 30th birthday.

Bradley was born on Monday, 20 May 1996 and sadly passed away just six days later. To celebrate his life and this milestone, Megan ran 30km over those same six days.

Megan’s connection to the Neonatal Unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital is deeply personal, with her family receiving care and support from the team over many years. Just 18 months after Bradley’s passing, her brother Ryan was born prematurely, and thanks to the dedication of the Neonatal team, he is now living a healthy life.

The family’s journey has also included more difficult moments, with the loss of Megan’s sister Lauren in 2001. Throughout, the Neonatal team provided compassion, kindness, and unwavering support. In a remarkable twist of fate, Megan herself was born prematurely exactly two years later and was cared for by the team.

Reflecting on her challenge, Megan said: “The heat made this challenge difficult, but the emotional side was even harder. Running 30km across six days to honour my brother meant carrying his memory with me every step of the way. There were tough moments, both physically and mentally, but remembering why I was doing it gave me the strength to keep going. Throughout the challenge, I felt the true weight and purpose behind every mile and the emotion of running for my brother became a source of strength when the runs got tough. This challenge wasn't just about the distance, it was about celebrating my brother's life, honouring his memory, and supporting families who have experienced similar loss”.

Through her determination, she raised an incredible £1,475 for the Neonatal Unit via the Trust's official charity Blue Skies Hospital Fund. Her efforts will help support other families receiving care in the Neonatal Unit in the future.

The Trust and Blue Skies would like to say a huge thank you to Megan for her kindness, strength, and support.
