Blackpool Teaching Hospitals’ Critical Care team has started a celebration of the various cultures of its colleagues to help them develop a better understanding of each other.
Katie McNulty, Nurse and Professional Nurse Advocate, started the initiative to bring everyone together, including the doctors, nurses, professional development team and research team.
Since January the team has celebrated a culture each month and as well as marking the Islamic religious festival of Eid has so far celebrated the cultures of:
-
Great Britain
-
China
-
Mexico.

In May the focus was on India, and the team went above and beyond to celebrate it.
Colleagues from India came together to cook various Indian foods such as samosas, onion bhajis, and ghee rice for a celebration event they hosted. They also decorated the area with balloons in the colours of the Indian flag and wore traditional Indian clothing.
Katie said: “The participation so far has been great to see but this month they have gone all out.
“I want to thank everyone for embracing this each month and I also want to say thank you for the phenomenal effort today”.
Jisha Jimmy, Sister on the unit, said: “We really enjoyed making the food and it has been a beautiful day”.
