Blackpool Victoria Hospital has played a starring role in a new video created to raise awareness of Organ Donation.
The production is narrated by Blackpool-based poet, Nathan Parker and features organ donation patients, Kim and Bea.
It also tells the story of Jackie, whose daughter Georgie donated her organs to multiple patients including Kim.
Production of the video was supported by Blackpool Teaching Hospital’s Dr Jason Cupitt who is a Consultant Anaesthetist and Cluster Lead for Organ Donation.
The video is being shared as part of Organ Donation Week, aiming to help increase the number of people in the UK on the NHS Organ Donation Register.
Blackpool Victoria Hospital is also home to a special piece of artwork, called From Me to You, installed outside the hospital’s main entrance in 2018 and intended to recognise the contribution of organ donors and the gift of life. The artwork also features in the video.
Dr Cupitt said:“The aim of the video is to raise awareness of organ donation and the value that it can give to both donor families and the patients receiving an organ transplant.
“We're encouraging the public to sign on the organ donor register and to make their wishes known to their family. Most of us would accept an organ if we needed one but would you donate if you could?"

In its latest campaign, NHS Blood and Transplant is calling on people in the North West to be ‘One in a Million’ by registering their decision to be an organ donor. The plan is to increase the number of people in the UK on the NHS Organ Donor Register - from 29 million to 30 million by the end of the year.
Organ donation is far more likely to proceed when someone has recorded their decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register. Last year, almost 90% of families supported donation when they knew their loved one had made their wishes clear.
