A weather warning has been put in place across parts of northern UK for Storm Boelo. The warning is in place from Saturday, 24 October until Sunday, 25 October.

Research conducted by the Met Office has found that the only one in eight people say they are fully prepared for severe winter weather. 19% of those asked ‘have not thought about preparing at all’.

Ahead of Storm Boelo we are sharing some tips from the Met Office to help prepare for winter:

  1. Have a separate battery charger in case of power cuts

  2. Keep your home heated to at least 18°C and during cold spells, keep your windows closed at night

  3. Ensure your property is prepared for winter weather and storms

  4. Insulate pipes to keep heat in and reduce the risk of frozen pipes

  5. Plan alternate travel routes to get to work in the event of severe weather

  6. Pack basic supplies in case you have to leave home quickly or your power and water are disrupted

  7. Check your car is ready for winter

  8. Check on your neighbourly

  9. Get your flu vaccination

  10. Consider getting involved in any community emergency preparedness groups.
