The event first began in 2019, following the sad passing of Lee’s father, George Heywood, from prostate cancer. Since then, the match has become an important annual occasion, with Lee and his former teammates coming together to celebrate George’s life in a truly special way.
Thanks to the incredible support of everyone involved, with funds raised through collections on the day, an online GoFundMe page, and donations made directly to the charity, the event raised over £2,000 for Blue Skies Hospitals Fund.
The annual match is a wonderful example of how coming together in memory of a loved one can make a lasting and positive difference for others.
Blue Skies, the Trust's official charity would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Lee and everyone who has taken part and supported this event over the years. Their continued dedication is helping the charity to enhance care for patients across Blackpool, Fylde, and Wyre.
