I completed my optical training in 2015 and have worked for both national and independent opticians. My experience includes performing patient pre-screening for Intra-Ocular Pressures, Visual Fields, and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), as well as dispensing spectacles, making adjustments to previously dispensed spectacles, and carrying out basic repairs.
I thoroughly enjoy my current role in the Outpatients Department, where I welcome patients, put them at ease during their appointments for diagnostic testing, and deliver high-quality patient care.

My current role includes seeing a mix of adults in Blackpool Victoria Hospital and children in community clinics in and around Blackpool, Thornton and Fleetwood.
To further my professional development, I have completed the BIOS clinical tutors' course, so I get the chance to teach and encourage future generations of orthoptists.

I play a vital role in training and mentoring other healthcare professionals, ensuring our team maintains the highest standards of clinical practice. Additionally, I contribute significantly to the management and organisation of the Orthoptic service. Ultimately, I am dedicated to enhancing the overall effectiveness and accessibility of our Orthoptic services, always prioritising the individual needs of the patients we serve.
I am an orthoptist and I graduated from the University of Liverpool in July 2017. I joined the team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals in July 2018. I assess both adults and children in clinics at the hospital and in the community. I am currently the vision screening lead for the Lancashire Vision Screening Service and the Blackpool School Screening Service. Both services involve the delivery of eye tests for children aged four to five years at school. I am responsible for organising, auditing and managing both services.

I also provide a visual screening service for children with Special Educational Needs, which involves me organising and carrying out reception age visual screening for the eligible children in the Special Schools and mainstream SEN Units in the Blackpool area

I work with multiple healthcare professionals such as optometrists in my orthoptic-optometrist joint clinics on Mondays and with the consultant ophthalmologist seeing paediatric patients in the Woman and Children's unit as well as adult patients in the adult ocular motility clinics every month. As well as this, I also assess paediatric patients in South Shore Primary Care Centre every Thursday.
I will be assessing stroke patients both in the outpatient's department and on the stroke ward and will be carrying out visual screening for SEN patients in special schools. I will be undergoing the BIOS clinical tutor training programme to help undergraduate orthoptic students whilst on placement at Blackpool hospital.

My role as an Ophthalmic Technician involves undertaking the clinical testing of visual fields, using the Humphrey Visual Field Analyser. I also help with numerous administrative duties within the Department.
I completed the BIOS (British Irish Orthoptic Society) Vision Screening Training Programme and achieved the standards of competency in Vision Screening for children aged four to five years. I visit schools in the Lancashire area and perform vision screening tests for Reception children.

My current roles include seeing adult patients at Blackpool Victoria Hospital both in an outpatient setting or assessing patients on the stroke ward. I see paediatric patients in the community, and this can be an orthoptic assessment or a joint optometry clinic.
I have now completed my BIOS Clinical tutors course to help support and teach students training in orthoptics or other health care professionals.

d Blackpool Victoria Hospital in August 2024 as an optometrist. My role involves seeing Paediatric patients in the Lytham clinic on a Friday. This involves assessing the health and refractive state of children's eyes. The rest of the week I work in independent practice seeing a wide range of patients.



My role as stroke lead is managing the visual screening of stroke survivors and ensuring continuation of care in the community if a visual impairment is detected. I work closely with other members of the stroke orthoptic team and the stroke multidisciplinary team to provide patient-centred care.
I have 
I enjoy working with a variety of patients such as Paediatric, SEN and Adult stroke patients. This includes general paediatric outpatient clinics, assessment of stroke patients on the ward or as an outpatient and a joint paediatric clinic with an optometrist.
I can be based at Blackpool Victoria hospital or community clinics in Fleetwood and South Shore.
