Title: Critically Appraising the evidence base

Description:

The critical appraisal programme is designed to enable the healthcare workforce (clinical and non-clinical) to build confidence in critical appraisal. This is a set of materials that can be accessed ‘just in time’ by knowledge and library staff and the wider health and care workforce as required. We have launched the Introduction to critical appraisal session with the remainder to come in the early part of 2023.

Literature Searching (LTS)

Description:

The aim of this project is to help healthcare staff, clinical and non-clinical, build confidence to search the published literature for articles and evidence relevant to their work, study and research. The modules are short (each taking no more than 20 minutes to complete) and may be ‘dipped into’ for reference, or completed to obtain a certificate. There are 7 modules suitable for novice searchers and those wishing to refresh their knowledge:Building the foundationsModule 1 Introduction to searchingModule 2 Where do I start searching?Module 3 How do I start to develop a search strategy?Developing the skillsModules 4 Too many results? This session introduces principles and techniques for planning and carrying out systematic and effective literature search using healthcare databases. The session will cover how to define search question, identifying key concepts, alternative terms, search techniques, combining searches and handling results.
