You should start brushing your baby’s teeth as soon as the first milk tooth breaks through (usually around 6 months old, but it can be earlier or later).

Parents/Carers should supervise tooth-brushing. Teeth should be brushed twice a day for about 2 minutes with children’s fluoride toothpaste which contains 1,000ppm or more of fluoride (check label).

Family toothpaste can be used from infancy if it contains between 1,350ppm – 1,500ppm fluoride. You need only a smear of toothpaste on the toothbrush and make sure children don’t lick or eat toothpaste from the tube.
