Our team offers expert advice and support to Blackpool Teaching Hospitals staff, empowering them to deliver safe and effective care in accordance with statutory guidance for Children in Care. We collaborate closely with partner agencies, including social care and the Integrated Care Board (ICB), to ensure a holistic approach for all Children in Care. This encompasses statutory health assessments and the provision of health passports.
Nurses across the safeguarding team, school nursing team, Youth Justice, and Awaken & Empower Child Exploitation teams are dedicated to supporting children in care. The school nursing and health visiting teams conduct health assessments for children, while Health Passport Summaries are completed for children and care leavers who choose to receive this document.
Initial health assessments are carried out by our Paediatric medical team in hospital-based clinics.
We work in partnership with the Complex Needs Midwives at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals to ensure robust safeguarding measures are implemented for children born into care.
