You are advised not to:
• Drive any motorised vehicle
• Work any machinery or work at a height
• Consume alcohol
• Sign any legal documents
Your biopsy results will take approximately 14 days to come back. Your Doctor/ Consultant will update you with the results once he/ she has had an opportunity to review them. If you are awaiting other test results, such as a scan, please be advised these can take up to 6 weeks to be reported on and your Doctor will only review your tests once all the results have been received. You will of course be contacted sooner should there be any cause for concern.
If a further appointment is needed for you to see your consultant it will be sent to you.
The most common side effects from endoscopy procedures include:
• Sore throat following gastroscopy
• Slight bleeding following biopsies or polyp removal
• Abdominal discomfort due to trapped air for all procedures
These should ease within 24 hours though if you have severe pain or bleeding you must seek further medical help.

We are located in Area 6 - Gastroenterology & Endoscopy Unit, highlighted in orange on the main hospital map. Follow the signs for the Main Hospital up the escalator/lift towards Area 6, second corridor on the left. Follow the signs down the link corridor, exit to the right via the side door (external) which is signposted for Patient Entrance to Reception.
Enter via East Park Drive and follow the road up the hill, take the second left signposted for Gastroenterology & Endoscopy Unit Drop Off Only, follow the road round to the right.
