Neonatal matron Julie Kearney ensured her team felt especially valued today as they celebrated International Neonatal Nurses Day.
The day is marked annually on 15 August to honour the dedication and specialised care provided by neonatal nurses to newborns, particularly those who are premature or unwell.
Neonatal nurse Ellie McKay said “Julie was so kind, she gave us all gift bags with pampering treats such as lip balms, we all feel really appreciated”. The team were also treated to breakfast from colleagues Sarah and Shauny.
Staff were able to acknowledge their colleagues in an appreciation area, which was decorated with themed balloons. Colleagues had the option to leave messages for one another and share comments on the topic “Why I love being a neonatal nurse”. These included “I am privileged to care for the tiniest patients and their families – I love my job” and “I have the privilege of having a small part in the journey of our families – it’s the best job ever!”
Congratulations to everyone on the neonatal unit whose dedication was recognised nationally when they won Neonatal Team of the Year in 2024.
Julie said, "The team work so well together to provide the best care for the babies and families, and neonatal nurses day provides an opportunity to acknowledge their efforts."
