Congratulations to Blackpool Teaching Hospitals colleagues and local businesses who recently teamed up to put on a fundraising event that raised over £4k for our neonatal unit, via the Blue Skies charity.

It was organised to recognise families who have experienced neonatal care and raised funds for the unit over the years.

Neonatal matron Julie with musical midwife Melissa.jpgBlackpool’s legend DJ Pete Schofield kindly hosted the event with his wife Di and son Joe at Schofield’s lounge bar. Thanks to the generous donations by numerous local businesses, Unison’s Lancashire Care branch, families, Schofield’s patrons and hospital colleagues, the night was a huge success. It even featured the vocal talent of one of our midwives, Melissa, singing Motown and soul favourites.

Neonatal matron Julie Kearney said “It was an amazing afternoon. We had so much support from Schofield’s, its regulars and the generosity of local businesses who helped hugely by donating prizes. A special thanks to Isabel, Sophie and Melissa who sang at the event. They were all amazing!

“I would like to thank all who generously donated, bought raffle tickets, and helped on the day, including colleagues from the neonatal and maternity units who helped to make it a success. So much so that we are already planning a joint maternity and neonatal event. Watch this space for further details!”
