The pathway clinical lead is a point of contact for families throughout the process. As part of the multiagency approach the child or young person is likely to have assessments with other members of the multiagency team, such as speech therapy.

The pathway team works closely with our partners in Education to gather information about the child or young person and their presenting needs and forms an integral part of any subsequent multiagency discussions that take place.

When all the assessments have been completed the multiagency team meets to discuss the child or young person’s presenting needs. This may or may not result in a diagnosis of Autism, however, the pathway consultant will contact the family to discuss the outcome and how any decisions made were reached.

Referrals must be made by a one of the professionals mentioned and be for a child registered with a GP surgery in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. Any queries for children not registered within the area should be directed to your GP, paediatrician, or education setting.

  • Referral received - accepted or rejected
  • Families notified if accepted and Clinical Lead Nurse will telephone
  • Professional that referred notified if rejected with rationale, information and support

  • Information requested from home, SENCO, school and other specialities already involved with your child
  • Once all combined with any NHS hospital and community history  

  • Appointment with the paediatrician
  • Sufficient evidence may support an exit of the pathway at this point

  • Other professionals may be asked to see your child and provide further information

  • Multi-agency needs led group comes together to discuss all of the information
  • A decision will be made on how all agencies can work together to better support your child
  • A plan will be made to demonstrate how this will happen

  • Further appointment with the paediatrician to go through the decision making and plan from the multi-agency needs led discussion meeting
  • Clinical Nurse Lead will contact you to further explore ways to help you support your child
